The title says it all. If anyone has any good (or not so good) indy experiences in SE Michigan, I would love to know. I plan to do the basics myself (oil, filters, brakes, maybe even plugs, etc) but want to be prepared with a good shop/mechanic. Even better would be a good mechanic that works on the side so I can help work on the car and learn as much as possible. Hey, did you guys know the engine is in the back of these cars...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know a good dealer, fred lavery in b-ham, the dealer isnt the greatest but i can promise that the tech is the fairest and honestest you will find
Jeff Jones in Farmington Hills. Tim Pott in Ann Arbor. And Danny Young at the dealer in Ann Arbor (Howard Cooper) is very good and trustworthy.
Brad - Thanks, but when I called there to get an estimate on something, they would not tke the time to give me a price for the parts or the installation, like I was wasting their time, so I got really turned off from there. Is there a specific tech I should ask for if I do bring my car there? Patrick - Thanks! Farmington hills is not too far, so I will keep Jeff in mind.
Don, If you want to make it into a good Sat or Sun drive...as long as it isn't a track weekend...you could always head all the way over here to the Cereal City area...I have a lift, all of the necessary tools/skills to walk you through this...heck, I can even score you a decent deal on parts.
i used to work at lavery, the dealer itself isnt the best, but if you go up there ask to talk to kern he will deffinatly do you right
Thanks Brad! Michigan to Miami - sounds like a good move to me!

Who did you end up using in SE Michigan? I am looking for a shop that is willing to work with me and not just take my $.
Jeff Jones @ Automotive Techniques in Farmington Hills put in a Short Shift kit for me. He even called a week later to make sure everything was ok.... I was happy with the work.
I ended up not using a shop, dealer or independent at this time. I wanted to be prepared "just in case". There are some previous posts that have some recommendations.
