Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This goes out to you A/C gurus. My 99 996 A/C wasnt blowing cold anymore so I recharged it as I've done before. This time, when I attached the gauge to the low side, the pressure was 0 and the compressor wasnt engaging. I charged the system to ~40 psi and the compressor engaged and there was a slight hissing sound from the expansion valve area. However the A/C still wasnt cold. Checked it again and the pressure had dropped to ~25. I charged some more and then the hissing sound increased and the pressure oscillated between 25-30 psi and wouldnt pressurize higher than that. The comp. stays on constantly. The sound is audible even inside the cabin with the A/C full blast, but it completely dissipates when the A/C is turned off or even if the "snow flake" is turned off. Due to the varying pressure on the low side, I think the exp valve is faulty. Anyone want to confrim? Does refridge. only flow through it when the system is operating, thus the lack of hissing when it's off?
