Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, i own a 2003 996 Carrera and today I went to a dealer and drove 2 911 variants. First was '03 X50 Twin Turbo, in one word WOW. This car is seriously quick, lots of low end power and that turbo SURGE! I do miss that surge since selling my 1998 944 Turbo S but this surge is much stronger and more linear. Suspension was real stiff compar my car but thats fine by me and it did sound much better then i thought the turbo would. Overall a great experience since i never drove the turbo before. Next up was the '08 Carrera S. Really nice car but did feel slow after just getting out of the X50. Much nicer interior and overall feel and much nicer sound also. In fact, the sound is what really made me love this car. At 4k RPM's it sounded so much sweeter then my 996. How can i duplicate this sound with my 3.6L? EVOMS intake help with this? Anyway, the cars performance didnt blow me away much more than my current car. Certainly not slow vehicle but not much quicker seat of pants then my 996. No question much more refined however. Overall I would probably prefer the Carrera S over the X50 but certainly it would be slower vehicle without question just much more refined. Porsche always improving their products i suppose!

I assume you don't have PSE? If you want better sound do the the PSE mod to your existing exhaust. Lot's of recent threads on how to. I have PSE and my neighbor told me the other day he could hear me coming from three blocks away.

+1 on PSE and EVO intake. I have both and it is oh so sweet... While you are there, get the B&M short shifter for 2 bills. Your car will feel like another machine.
