Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded my 99 Cab Tip to a 2009 997.2 PDK Cab. I will miss my 996, I hope she finds a good home. A couple of quick observations. I bought the 996 4 years ago and the value held up very well (I got 85% of what I paid on the trade-in and saved NYS sales tax). It also didn't require much maintenance, other than the RMS fix and 30k service. In comparison, now that I have had the 997 for two weeks; I found the 996 to be a much lighter feeling car. The connection to the road is better than the 997 which feels more like a grand-tourer in comparison. Although both cars have full-leather interiors, the fit and finish on the 997 is much better. Nice to have a glove box, bluetooth and other modern technology as well. The PDK is something else to marvel about. In closing, I will miss the 996 (if I had room, I would have kept what will one day be a classic, if not a great vintage of Porsche engineering). The simplicity of the feel of the road is a yardstick that all cars will be measured against. I will also add that bang for your buck, the 996 is the greatest entry point for a sports car enthusiast. Pics of the old car and of the new one below.
