Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, temporarily. My buddy is shipping his 997 out from the East Coast and has asked me to handle the delivery. Of course, it will need to be driven every now and then to keep things lubed up. I have not driven a 997 so I am very much looking forward to comparing the two cars although his is a C4S coupe.

Sounds like fun to me Gonzo911. I'd like to hear your impressions of the 997 as that would be a logical next step for many 996 owners like me.

That would be ideal since it has the 9A1 platform Can't wait for the impression. Always wonder how the 9A1 engine feels compared to ours. Maybe more free-revving (I hope) with 40% less parts?

Well, I picked up my buddie's car from the transport truck on Friday evening. The car is beautiful. an MY08 997 C4S with 13K on the clock. It still has that new car smell! Some of you asked for my take on the differences. Well, here goes... Styling : First off, the 997 is beautiful and seeing them side by side, by MY03 C2 looks downright skinny. The interior is so much more plush and modern. We could all upgrade to new seats, new Double Din Head Unit, Aluma-look this, Carbon Fiber that, and we still could not come close to the updated styling of the 997. The 997's interior made my 996's interior feel like a 1985 VW! The Drive : Umm...I think I need a new suspension! Actually, it was hard to judge considering mine is a Cab and my buddies car is a coupe. My experience with ragtops through the years is that they are always going to be rougher and stiffer. But the 997 was amazingly smooth on roads that would normally bounce me up and down. Everything felt tight, but again, the cab vs. coupe comparison is not fair. Performance : The 997 definitely felt quicker to me. The pull reminded me more of a vette than my 996. Much less "physical", just smooth, if that makes any sense. The acceleration of the 997 was absoluely "effortless". The 997 is a 6-spd as is mine and the gearbox is still very mechanical which I like. My 996 is plenty quick but the pull has a "raw" power feel, like the engine is doing all the work. The 997 felt like it was just gliding on a rail. Handling : Again, unfair comparison between a C4S and my C2. But, it handled great as expected. The Differences : Ok, so the 997 is newer and more modern looking with the LED Highlights and the plush interior. It is a GREAT car, but the feel is much different. When I drive my 996 it is almost like I am in control of everything. Hitting a corner and accelerating through it reminds me of my younger days playing football. You run at full speed, plant your feet and make a move. That's the feeling I get in the seat of my 996. The 997 just does it on its own. I am sure either a 997 or a 996TT is in my near future as I plan on selling my car when the warranty expires in 13 months. If it is a 997, I would be more than happy with one. Another way to look at it. I bought my 996 for $28K and at the time a 997 would have cost me close to $50K. Is it twice the car. No. Would I buy a late model 997 in a year for $40K. Yes I would.
