I am looking at a Red 996 with Carerra Decals that I don't love. Would love to take them off. Given that they have been on the ar for 17 years will removing them leave a color difference between the paint that was exposed for 17 years vs the paint that was covered for twenty years. Also after 17 years how hard will it be to remove them Thanks

Emblems and decals can leave some chemical burn-in effect on the paint on cars of this age, especially if left outside for years in hot, humid climates. The chemical composition of the glue causes a discoloration on darker paint which would require a repaint in those areas. If you're talking about a large door decal, then what I've also experienced when removing them is that the adhesion pulls the clear coat off even when a light solvent and heat are applied during removal. You should factor in paint shop services for this car if you plan to remove the decals.
Almost impossible for red to not lose some of its pigment. If it has had any sun exposure.
It depends on the quality of the decal and how the car was stored. There will definitely be a minor difference in shade simply from the age, if it spent its life outside it will be more noticeable. To remove them you would want to try steam or heat gun with a plastic razor unless you can get it with your fingernail. If it is dry and crusty you can buy an eraser wheel and attach to a drill and take it off just watch a video on how to do it. There is a chance being on it could pull some of the clear off but again it depends on how the car has lived its life. If the decal is on the lower portion of the car it will show less than if it were on the hood or deck lid.
Thats what I thought Looking to swap out my black 996 for a beautiful red that I saw but it has a really large decal that IMO totally detracts from the car. Dont want to have to deal with painting etc and so I will pass. Thanks all
Tell the seller its a deal if they take the decals off.
I would but its a dealer and I am going to want to try and get the price down as well and I am not sure the two can happen together. Too much effort for them. Will try but dont think gonna happen
yea it would just be a last ditch thing,, a GOOD paint shop can get most of it but as posted above clear-coated paint its always a coin toss if it shadowed the color coat. ANother option is they can hard clay block, hard buff and shoot a new clear tint on,, but thats some $$ Lowball and do plasti dip? (If its a track toy.. )
I pulled stripes off my Boxster and the decals off the side. Never had a problem with the clear coming off. No discoloration but they were only one for a year or two.
