Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, been asking myself if there is such a thing as silent codes on the 996, I don't have a code reader yet, (looking to pick up a durametric pro soon) and wanted to know it some codes can arise (be stored) without a light (CEL or other) popping up on the dash? Thanks for your input!

POST 3Original post

Yes, silent codes definitely exist. I was having some trouble with my alarm system recently. The CEL was never illuminated, but my mechanic was able to find the codes.

POST 4Original post

There are active codes, which are accompanied by a CEL. There are pending codes which are not accompanied by a CEL. There are permanent codes which are also not accompanied by a CEL but which can only be erased by the DME after so many start/warmup/drive cycles with the triggering error absent.

Thanks for the great answers guys. Good stuff to know.
