Hoping for some experienced wisdom. The passenger seat on the 2002 996T was stuck at the top (complaint from wife/passenger so this now becomes mission-critical)... I removed the seat as common wisdom from this site is "something is jammed in there", but nope, nothing. What I found is that the 'gear' that drives this up and down, (from the little gearbox) engages with another gear connected to the arm/rod that moves the seat; and this was at its limit and wouldn't reverse. I loosened things up, put some channel locks on that rod, and powered it and it moved! Up and down, no issue. BUT! When it hits the limit (up or down) it gets stuck again. So... 1) is the motor/gearbox 'weak' so that it cannot reverse at the limits, or 2) is there some physical 'limiter' / blockage that is missing/broken, so that the motor runs past its limit and jams(I don't think this is controlled by some computer, all other aspects of these seats seem to be a physical block... or 3) something else I cannot see in there nor on the parts diagrams... I was tempted to move the seat to an 'average' position and then disconnect that wire to that motor, but where is the fun in that.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
