Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Had to post this as it is in my home town. 24 hours after ownership... http://www.gtspirit.com/2014/11/27/m...-dallas-crash/

POST 4Original post

Bummer! It looks like a little DE would have paid dividends in that case! Lucky they weren't hurt bad... Late August L.I. NY there was a accident where an family friend/uncle let his nephew drive him and his car (it was a Lamborghini in this case) because he had had a few drinks. The Kid proceeded to hit a guardrail at around 100mph and was killed... see here http://www.komonews.com/news/nationa...273324141.html Just 'cause a car CAN go fast that doesn't mean it SHOULD. Regular roads and conditions aren't for racing, if you must go (too) fast (for them) please take it to the track! It may save your life (and more importantly some other innocent...)

Wow. What a horrific day for him and his father. Tragic story

POST 6Original post

Just to be clear, I didn't know the driver or the "uncle" - the way I wrote it, it kind of looks like it was a "family friend" of mine...still very sad regardless.

POST 7Original post

Just goes to show that having the money to buy a fast car doesn't mean you have the brains to drive it. And in the US the standards and testing for getting a drivers license are absurd. Not sure if passing laws would do any good. Dying young is how the species weeds out the stupid and the unlucky...people you don't want as doctors or airplane pilots.

POST 8Original post

^Hmmm^... Lack of judgment is part of being young. I didn't know the young man who crashed the "Lambo" so I can't speak to his level of intelligence. His "enthusiasm" certainly got the best of him. What most people don't realize is that these "supercars" are basically missiles on wheels, and those with only basic driving skills are WAY over their heads when/if driving them.

Yet if the object of the game is to attain triple digit speeds a proper "Supercar" is a much wiser choise than a POS 1970 Nova with drum brakes all 'round.

POST 10Original post

Amazing that both people in the McLaren came away with non-life-threatening injuries...while I have no idea how fast they were going, the pictures suggest that they were hauling. I hope - but am dubious - that the driver learned a valuable lesson.

^True^ but generally speaking, The 1970 POS Nova was going in a straight line...

Google super car videos on youtube and watch clip after clip of super cars (and not so super cars) fishtailing out of the control. There is the clip of two Corvettes stop light drag racing and one gets out of control and takes out the 2nd car. There are clips of drivers in some kind of parade making a sharp turn on to a surface street from possibly a hotel courtyard and more than one fishtails just leaving the driveway. And on and on. As an aside, it is amazing when one watches these clips how many times when it is obvious the car's in trouble and you would expect the driver to lift, he does not. My point is high performance cars in the wrong hands is just trouble looking to happen. Even in the right hands -- well a driver who has managed to make it some time into his ownership without any incident -- if the driver forgets what kind of car he is in things can get ugly quicker than you can say "oh @#$%!".
