Hi all. Hoping to get a quick answer. I have just brought a porsche pcm1 for my 996. My car is not most so know it will work. Question is Is this a simple plug and play? Do I need to add any wiring? Does anyone know if there are any articles on retrofitting this unit. I know it's old technology but I like the oem look and want to get the car as back to standard as possible. Thanks.

You seem to be saying that your car is somehow different from others and you know it will work... So, if you already know this then what are you asking? You already bought it (or brought it), so just install it and see if it works. I'm not sure what you're after here...

I guess he meant "not MOST bus" rather than it being unique in some way.
Yes, good call. I'll bet you're right. Even so, if he knows that it will work, then I still don't really understand what he's after from this group. I know that the conversion is possible. I considered buying a 1999 996 before I bought my C4S. The owner had made the conversion to PCM 1 back in 2000. I don't know what was involved.
You seem to be assuming I'm a he? Sorry to disappoint which is why I'm asking the questions. Can I just remove my old standard stereo and plug in a pcm 1? Sorry to disappoint. I'm not male.
I guess we shouldn't have made that assumption! Most rennlisters on the 996 board are male, so that was the reason for the assumption! Sorry!
Hi. So my Q still remains. I'm going to take out a standard Becker stereo and try to retro fit a pcm 1. Is there any cables I need to buy?..........x
Having never done this, you are going to have to hook up a speed sensor if it is not already in the wiring. However, considering there is a GALA signal to the radios, it obviously knows the speed sensor. You will also have to figure out where the GPS antenna will go, you will need one. If the dash doesn't have steel in it, you can hide it under the dash and it should work. I would look at a PCM1 on ebay and compare it to the radio you have. Here is a recent listing with pictures: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-OEM-...vip=true&rt=nc So based on that, you'll also need to the wiring from the head unit to the nav disc unit. You'd have to custom make it. I know it's doable, but would require some research.
