Im looking at a 996 that does have bore scoring and im trying to get an idea of rebuild/engine replacement costs. I know thats a loaded question with a lot of factors that would affect the cost, but if some of you have done this and i can get a general idea of cost, i think he will work with me on the price of the car. The engine has about 65k miles. Thoughts?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Short answer- depends on the shop and the amount and quality of workmanship. Shorter answer - In many cases, more than you paid for the car. Shortest answer - Call FSI
There’s cheap and right you can get a replacement engine no guarantee $15k or have LN engineering rebuild yours to stock spec $21k or have FSI do it bigger and better $31k+ and a 2 year wait everyone else is a roll of the dice really Mike
I'd budget $20k - $25k. If you search there was a thread comparing some of the more popular options like Hartech, RND, FSI, etc and featured a nice comparison of each. I'd also research your area or have some conversations with your local PCA chapter to see what shops locally could help you out and speak to them. This should give you a good feel for the investment you'd need and a time frame for work to be completed. This could be few months or 2023. Depending on the severity of the scoring I'd treat the car as a roller or close to it.
Take a look at Hartech - multiply by 1.5x and add $2k for shipping. https://www.hartech.org/engine-rebuilds Some reading https://www.hartech.org/images/downl...0(interim).pdf Additional for various other models https://www.hartech.org/images/downl...rs%20Guide.pdf
Unless you can negotiate a price that's not much more than a "roller", FIND ANOTHER CAR!!!
