Local Indy diagnosed it as inner and outer tie rods, strut mount and sway bar bushings but he's too far away from my office So I took it to the local dealer who diagnosed it as just the sway bar links - and that everything else still looked good. I know not all Indys are bad and not all dealers are good - but in this case I just feel like the Indy was a little lazy and he dealer tech took the time to pinpoint the source vs throwing parts at it. I saved almost 800 bucks going to the dealer - I know - rare Got the car back and it's perfect - the looseness in the steering wheel and clinking clunking sound over rough pavement is gone Bonus was a Panamera S hybrid loaner - nice car but by end of the day I had withdrawal from my car

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sounds a bit like my experience. After the last time in the shop I swore that I'll always take my 996 to the dealer for anything that needs a diagnosis before I start (or my Indy starts) throwing parts at the problem. Live and learn.
I think I have some subtle rattling coming from my suspension and it may be the same thing.
I had the same issues but mine needed the upper strut mount bearings too. I tackled that last weekend and will do the rest tomorrow then off to the dealer for an alignment.
To clarify, was the issue sway bar end links or the droplinks? I currently have a bit of the same symptoms and found that my droplinks are in need of replacement. I'm just waiting on the parts to arrive. Just wondering if the droplinks would also cause the clatter or clunking.

You can easily grab it with some channel locks and shake it to see if there is any noise or play, but yes I've had previous experience with bad end links causing clatter and clunking as well. As for the Panamera, kinda surprised to see the water temp gauge opposite to the way the 996 is. Usually I would think one reads gauges left to right with high temp usually being on the right side.
