I have a new to me 04 carrera which only came with one normal key and a valet key. The valet key will not start the car. It locks, unlocks and when you put it in the ignition all the dash lights come on it just will not start. Anyone know why this would be? Id like it to be working. Thanks

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

need an actual key fob (with working guts inside) to be programmed by a dealer.....not cheap
The valet key has 2 parts. The blade and the "pill". The blade will make all of the locks turn but not start the car. It needs programmed at the dealer. You should not need a new fob. My dealer charged my a few bucks to program but was not expensive. But I have read that some dealers won't program a key you don't buy from them. Call first.
