Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 is an '01 C2 w/ approx 72K miles. When I spin the rear tires (on accident of course) I get axle hop. I'm wondering if this is normal if I've perhaps got something worn out. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Probably normal. Axle hop is very common in a number of cars and particularly cars equipped with independent rear suspension and fat/sticky tires, aka Porsches. 'course, with 72K miles on the car, granted while not "big" miles, there could be a bad shock (look for signs of a leak) or a worn suspension or drivetrain component that could exacerbate the hopping so you should consider having the car checked over by a pro Porsche tech just in case the hopping -- which we are unable to judge the severity of -- is not normal.

POST 3Original post

Don't launch it like a muscle car? IRS is known for getting axle hop on hard launches. Worn out shocks probably aren't improving things, which I would expect at 72k.

POST 4Original post

Yeah it's normal. Not as bad on r comps, oddly.
