Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Relative newbie to the Porsche world - only "got it" in late 2012 - but I am smitten. Yes, I've seen more than my share of catastrophes, including some I really would not wish on my worst enemies, but like most ongoing relationships, the good far outweigh the bad, and the most memorable are the ones that stick with you. Even the "Holy ****!" moments start to take on the patina of warm nostalgia, the stuff you sit around the campfire with a cold brewski in hand and reminisce, "do you remember the time the GT3RS took over throttle and brake control at 170 on the banking at Fontana?" This 2002 996.2 is closing in on 100,000 miles. It did just right by me for nearly 1000 miles up to Pebble Beach weekend, and one of the surprising things was, even though I was hanging out with much more exotic machinery - mostly raging bulls and other exotica - more times than I expected, I got the two thumbs up thrown at me. One buddy, who spent the weekend chauffering an Aventador and its owner around, told me, "yeah, I followed you on 198; the car is badass!" One thing I notice about the older 996's and sports cars in general - the harder you drive them (within reason) the better they drive. These are not meant to be babied, afraid to rev beyond 3k or sticking to 5 below posted speeds, especially in turns. Load up those tires and put some compression in those suspensions; let the engines wind out and warm up! You'll be happy you did and you may discover your baby has a whole 'nother side that you will fall more in love with... Get out there and drive!

Nice car! My question is, did you "throw" your clubs in there, or did you ship 'em?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Lol! They could fit in the passenger seat, tied down...but there's no time for golf during car week! :-)

POST 5Original post

2 bags fit just fine on top of folded down rear seats. You will probably have to remove the drivers from the bags though. I can appreciate your sentiment, I DRIVE mine regularly! No worries on the suspension loading up or wrapping up the RPMs!

POST 6Original post

Pebble Beach...No time for golf? OUCH ! That's sacrilege!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@mharrison the rear shelf is incredibly useful - I drove from Scottsdale to L A with a complete exhaust system and OEM shocks and springs back there, plus a sub-woofer assembly. But how do you keep the golf bags from rolling around? @dporto it was car week - priorities, man, priorities! But I do miss Spyglass, Cypresspoint, and Spanish Bay!

POST 8Original post

Sweet car. That car def isn't the run of the mill 996's you see a lot of and can totally understand your friend's comments. "Weightless" white, luv it.

POST 9Original post

"@dporto it was car week - priorities, man, priorities! But I do miss Spyglass, Cypresspoint, and Spanish Bay!" Yeah, I know...I haven't played Pebble yet (or SG, Cypress or SB), so until I do it'll be sort of a holy grail type of thing - driving up there in the Porsche would make it even better. All that being said, I haven't had my clubs in mine yet either...it's just so much easier throwing them in the back of the SUV

POST 10Original post

Clubs fit easily on the back shelf with seats down. I have a full size cart bag and did it hundreds of times.

POST 11Original post

Great looking 996. Porsches have been like that from the beginning. There are many stories of the issues caused in early 356 and 911 by owners that just putted around town in them. Issues fixed by a good Italian tune up.

POST 12Original post

"Clubs fit easily on the back shelf with seats down. I have a full size cart bag and did it hundreds of times. " I know they'll fit, it's just getting them in and out that discourages me a little...I'm sure I'll do it eventually, but it's so much more convenient to leave them in the back of the SUV (along with the push cart). I guess If I ring the carry bag (and maybe a few less clubs) it'd be a little easier.

POST 13Original post

Love the white 996! What kind of wheels are those? I'm thinking about going black and those one's look pretty cool. R
