Hello, Name is Leo and I have been lurking around here for a few mths. trying to gather all the info I can about possibly purchasing my first 996. I have read the threads and write ups on pelican parts, pricing the parts, and it seems to be realistically doable. My biggest concern is the power loss because I would be coming from an 03 Cobra and at 452hp, it is significantly different as far as power goes. I would have to sell my cobra in order to afford a 996 but it is a car I have always wanted and I can finally afford to get one. I just don't want to purchase the 996 and have buyer's remorse after I pulled the trigger. I met up with a member on here a few mths. ago, test drove, did the loan, and got cold feet at the end. I figure I would educate myself a little more before I jump into it. I have the approval of my wife but I am still a bit weary about the cross over from my Cobra. It would be a weekend car and stored in my garage as I already have an Accord as my grocery/DD. Is it worth the trade? I have always wanted a 911 and the 996 appears to be the one that is the friendliest for DIY for an average guy like myself from what I've read. Turbo is out of the question as far as budget goes. Any info would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Leo

I came over to the 996 world after owning a 2005 C6 Corvette with 525 hp. Yes the Porsche is slower but it's soooo much better in every other way.
felt more refined driving it, handling, etc but not as powerful when i stepped on it. i am seriously considering selling mine and crossing over
if you've always wanted one and can now afford to do so, buy one.....YOLO
that's what i was thinking when i was drinking last night reading some posts lmfao. explained to the ol wife that the payment would be the same as the cobra if i sold it. lil dpeloyment money never hurt anyone lol. she was like ok, it kind of caught me off guard!
If you've never owned a Porsche - well life's too short.
I guess I'll be listing my Cobra here soon lol amazing how beer n pee pressure reassures us lol

Same here. Agree 100 percent. Except my C6 was only 400hp. But still. Porsche is a far better daily driver or even weekend getaway car.
Do it. I've driven all sorts of different sports cars, corvettes, Shelby GT500, BMW's, a couple F cars and I can honestly say my 996 is amazing. It's a different animal compared to the higher horsepower muscle cars but I think I can make it go faster on a twisty road. Around town it's great (hated the GT500's heavy controls and rock hard suspension) and even when pushed still gets great mileage.
yup, posted cobra on CL....let's see what we get lol
Power is good but the 996 is just pure driving enjoyment. YOLO!
I had a 600whp GTR and I would definitely say my Porsche c2 is a nicer car to drive but.... I do miss the feeling and rush of boost at full throttle.
They are two completely different animals. I have a 2014 C7 stingray along with my 996, but i get far more enjoyment from the 996 then i will ever get from my C7. Yeah the power is nice on the C7 but the 996 is alot more fine tuned machine. Its got that analog driving experience that no other car has in my opinion. All the new cars including the C7 have way too much thechnology and too many nanies.
FWIW, I went from a 320 HP 996 C4S to a 480 HP 997 TT. I have to admit, I enjoyed the 996 as much as I enjoy the 997 (more in some ways, less in some ways). It's not all about the HP numbers...
The Cobra is a meat cleaver and the Porsche is a scalpel. They both to the same thing... TC
Stock 996 handling is awesome, 996 with some suspension upgrades on a whole different level!
