Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Holy sh*t, why so much?
From the 959 Registry... 959 Production Numbers / Quantities Total production numbers for all the cars were somewhat sketchy. According to an article published in Excellence magazine by Ian Kuah, when asked by the factory, they gave these numbers: - 16 prototype cars (1985) - 21 "Vorseries" or pre-production cars (1985) - 106 Comfort models and 7 ROW sport models (1987) - 149 Comfort models and one ROW sport model (1988) - 29 Sport models for USA market (1988) - 8 additional cars built out of spare parts (1992)
Other then the fact that there are a little over 300 or so that makes them rare, but not the most rare Porsche models, these cars have been over shadowed by more modern P Cars such as the new GT2RS as far as performance. I'd rather have a nice 356C and a GT3RS and *still* have money left over then this 959.
Is it faster than my 996
saw one in person, they are very "AWE" inspiring
959 is a landmark car. I can't recall anybody who didn't want one of these because they were revolutionary in terms of how you think about sports cars. It's why you have awd sports cars. P-cars, lambos, etc. Coupling HP and computer systems is what makes these cars drivable. It was a paradigm shift and to own one would be a privilege and worth every penny that they are asking and more. That being said, can somebody loan me the money so I can buy it!!???
Did the term "die hard" as in collector come from guys that are tough to kill by their wives? The insurance alone would break most. I hope insurance agents don't scam to get more money from guys claiming a for sale price is what the car is worth so the insurance goes up. Might lead to prices for cars going down though.
Saw a 959 in Ralph Lauren's collection, amazing to see in person.
Well known local Porschephile John Dixon (see www.tajmagarj.com ) in Dayton, OH, has a 959. A few years ago, he loaned it to a media company for a photo shoot and, you guessed it, it was involved in a major wreck while in their possession.. Following a court fight, the wreckage was returned to John and it has now been incorporated into a display at the Taj Magarj. Prior to the wreck, he would show it at various local Porsche events where it never failed to attract a crowd. If you're a 911 nut, the 959 will forever be on your "when I win the lottery" list. relinuca
I absolutely love the 959. Brings back memories from junior high school and thinking about what the hell I'd have to do to get my hands on one of these things. I like it's look and what it was capable of which wasn't met by another road Porsche until several years later. Oh and on that video game Test Drive II, I would always choose the 959 as my choice of vehicle! Anyone want to buy that one and make me the primary caretaker?
There is also a Yellow one here in Texas at Drivers Source. It is in their garage called the Vault.
Canepa has one too (Scotts Valley CA) - was told it took 1200 man hours and $80K in parts to make it CA legit. it's for sale at ~$485K
It's as fast as the Carrera GT but 20 years older. Pretty amazing stuff. http://www.roadandtrack.com/special-.../a-breed-apart Here is my GT3 at the shop in the next bay over from a 959. Me_959.jpg -td

hmmm... that'd be nice. I remember being a teenager and reading the car mags at the time... wanted one then too! Defiantly ahead of it's time.
At one time I did not think you could bring them into the US legally.
you can but can't legally drive it on US roads. I remember reading Microsoft's Bill Gates and partner Paul Allen each buying one.
This one was on display at a Porsche dealer in Boston. Forget the name of the dealership. -Manil

Agreed. It was such an important car. I was in the car biz when it was introduced, and one forgotten aspect of the story was the statement the 959 made to Porsche's competition. It was a real intimidation tactic, and led directly to the F40, for example. Enzo was contemptuous of the 959's advanced technology that he thought the F40, rope door handles and all, was an appropriate upthrust middle finger in the direction of Stuttgart. It was a pretty neat era.
The 959 was the Carrera GT of it's time... or perhaps the Carrera GT is the 959 of its time. Either way, the 959 was ahead of its time and you can see that technology incorporated in modern Porsches. /m
