Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am considering a 1999 C2 coupe 40k miles but a pretty base car. 3 owners, no accidents and limited records. No leaks. Black on black. Body is clean. No pending maintenance or mechanical issues per the owner. I would need a thorough PPI before moving a head. Car is out of town so I have not driven it yet. Two questions: * Current owner seems motivated to sell to raise funds for a business. What would be a great price for this 996? * I know a lot of people advise steering clear of 1999's but there is also support from 1999 owners who have not had issues. In spite of what may be a great price is it better to stick with a 2000/2001 model. 2002's are currently just out of my budget. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

The advantage of a 99 C2 is that you can find them with LSD. They do not have all the "sissy" controls such as PSM and egas. The 99 has a strong engine and is no more problematic than any of the subsuquent years. It's the best DRIVERS 996 they have made.

POST 4Original post

Heck, $32-35K can buy you a decent coupe from a private party without looking too hard, with a few options. I found 46 on AutoTrader with 60K mi and under (most were under 50K). That's the range I was looking for when I bought my '00 cab (w/10k more miles) last week.

POST 5Original post

$35K or less from a private party. 99 is a great choice as stated above - no e-gas + LSD. Also no electric hood and trunk release. Full leather interior is a plus if it has it.

POST 7Original post

I agree - more than 30k - less than 35k - during my search, I had a guy offer me his 1999 with fewer miles than that for 33k, and that was a year ago.

POST 8Original post

Also need input, I found a very nice 99 C4 Cab with factory Aero kit, full tan leather, all electric and have managed to get a price of 36600, however it is located in CA (I'm on the eastcoast), so I'll have to fly out and arrange for it to be shipped back so in total I estimate it will cost close to 39. Any thought's? Thanks

POST 9Original post

EXLondoner: sounds high, prices are in low 30's. TRW: Same, low 30's; as close to 30 as you can get him. Under 33 your still ahead with a great car for a great price, over 33 and its still a great car but there are others equally as nice selling for less.

POST 11Original post

It has 33400 miles, look very unique though....i guess i may wait and keep looking It has pss9's also Thanks for the input guys

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car is priced at $28,000 which is his bottom line price on the vehicle. Sounds like if it passes a PPI it would be a great buy. If I pass on it if anyone is interested in the info on it PM me and I will forward the ad.

POST 14Original post

TRW- sounds like a good buy, if PPI check out. Exlondoner-with all that extra "stuff", $36600 sounds like a great buy. It's a C4, reaalll low miles, and aero kit. If you must fly out, then you should drive it back! What a great adventure in a great car! $300 ticket, $300 gas, $400 for 4 nights hotel.

POST 15Original post

Great deal, Where are you located. I find that you can get better deals in SoCal than any other State. That being it's the car captial If everything thing is in good condition or better; take it. 2 months ago I bought mine from a p-dealer for 37,800. 2000 C4 with a couple options,48,000 miles but no aero package for me. I also will need new tires and brakes in the next 5000 miles. When I was looking to buy I found that miles not year played the biggest part. years 99-01 Prices are still falling month after month.

POST 16Original post

Prices are still falling month after month. CPO '04 C2s are now going for the mid $50s in my area.

POST 17Original post

Not sure if it has anything to do with summer almost being over or all the new p-cars on the dealers lots. (i.e. Cayman is a good deal right now) You can get a Cayman S 6 grand off right now. Basic package would prob run you mid 50's Cayman S $58,900 Optional Packages Preferred Package PPA $2,190 Exterior Color Black A1 $0 Interior Color Black Standard Leather AN $0 Wheels 18" Boxster S Wheel 397 $390

POST 18Original post

I have 1999 996 C4 that I am getting ready to sell. Arctic Silver / Black Leather, Full Power Seats, CD Changer, 18" Wheels, PS2's, New Brakes all around. The car has 57,xxx miles and just had the full 60K service performed. The car is in Very Good condition and I have all the service records. No Accidents, No Paintwork, No Problems. I think 34.5 is a fair price. Let me know if you are interested. Mark

POST 19Original post

Thanks guys, but I'd hate to drive it back and put all those miles, plus I don't have the time. The front bumper will need a respray. Guys summing it up it will be close to 39 once the deal is done, in your hinest oppinions is it still worth it?

POST 20Original post

IMO, Priced in at $39,000... Thats tough, I say No CarreraMark has a really good deal going...IMO

POST 21Original post

Thanks for the heads up, glad I made the right decision to not go with it, the search continues... I would think about Carrera marks, but I'm in search for something with low miles, maybe a 2001 for a little more.

POST 22Original post

Hey TRW - See my 1999 Arena Red with Savannah Beige interior C2 Coupe on E-bay. It's got about $3500 in aftermarket options. Fly to Vegas... and drive it or ship it home! (I bought a 2001 TWin Turbo Arctic Silver 6 speed with Grey Supple Leather interior with only 2900 miles on it on June 29th from a guy in Kansas City, MO... my old hometown!) Hey, e-mail or call me if you're interested in the '99 C2 Coupe!! And, if any of you other guys or gals know of an interested party, please pass it on! Thanks...

POST 23Original post

price / miles + options + C4 = This is a great deal if anyone is interested. Mark

POST 24Original post

What would you consider a reasonable price for a 2001 Carrera with 36000 miles. I will have a lit of options by tomorrow. Thanks again

POST 25Original post

In July we bot a 2000 C2 w/42,000 mi....for $42K. (San Luis, Ca) That was no steal except for the spotless condition of the car. It was my definition of a potential good used car buy: Nice house, Good guy, Car nut (beautiful 60-something Austin H.. 3000 in garage). Really, the house tells much of the story! He wanted $ for his daughter's college. As his pitch went, "What's the difference between this and a new car?!" and " This car has twenty-four thousand dollars in options!" It is nice to have stuff like the $8K 'Supple leather' interior with a suede head-liner and things I would never buy for myself. I told him my feeling is that it's ok to pay a guy extra for his efforts in keeping something nice; but it's hard to back that with the bucks! I'm not rich but buying the best you can find, not the cheapest, is almost always worth it! JVictor

POST 26Original post

PS; California cars (at least any that have not been driven in the surf!) are very hard to beat and are worth the xtra $. I mean, Dude!....some haven't even been in the rain! JVictor
