Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A Boxster owner I know with a manual transmission put in a Tip cluster from a 996, so he could have the 2 additional gauges. Cluster worked fine except, of course, the Tip shift lights do not work. Cannot think of any reason you cannot do it on a 996. Make sure you get the right style cluster as it changed in 2002. Also, if you have a C2 make sure it is from a C2. Jeff
Thanks... Will a 2003 work in a 2002?
It should. The old style cluster was 1999-2001, and the new style came out in 2002. An old style cluster will not work in a 2002-2003. Again, if you have a C2 make sure the cluster is from a C2. If you put a C4 cluster in a C2 the fuel gauge will not work properly. Jeff
do you know the part numbers for the different clusters? I just bought a cluster online and I don't know if I should install it in my car now that I've read your post! BTW: i've been searching rigorously for an install diy for the gauge cluster... maybe i'm an idiot but I couldn't find it on either renntech or here I have a 99 c2 and I have no idea what type of car the cluster I just bought came out of. I will be receiving it in 3 days so I would appreciate it if you could help me so I could compare the part numbers to see if it will fit in my car. You stated that the 99-01 clusters will not fit on a 02 and up vehicle. how about the other way around? what if I find that the cluster is from an 02 and up car... can it be retrofitted on a 99? Look at a 1999-2001 and then a 2002 up and tell me what you see. Not only do they look different the connectors on the back are a different size and it is impossible to plug in a mismatched cluster.
02- guage cluster
Don, that is the biggest picture I have seen - actual size. We have had a number of discussions on renntech about swaping clusters. Let Loren know the part number and post a picture when you get it. It is on a white sticker. Then we can tell you if it will work. If not, then you will not be the first person who bought an incompatible cluster.
thanks guys~ I expect to be receiving it on saturday. I'll definitely keep you guys posted! Thanks again~
