Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a C2 with an X51 kit as stock (anniversary coupe) I'm very pleased with it's performance which is blistering, and it's fuel consumption however I am of the maxim 'the faster the better' Are there any improvements that can be made to this engine ... that are not astronomically priced and how would they affect it's warranty? Thanks Donny J

POST 2Original post

The only meaningful improvement is Techart's supercharger kit that will set you back about 20G but will put performance very near turbo territory. You're probably better off selling your X51 engine and buying an "old" 3.6 to have the supercharger put in so that if something goes wrong you still have your original. 5G or so is cheap insurance for such a mod JM PS Ruf discontinued it's supercharger program for the 996... Typically they build the most reliable stuff so be warned...

POST 3Original post

My engine felt tight and slow when I first got the car and was keeping it below 4000 rpm to run it in. Now some 8000 miles later the engine feels free all the way to the redline and feels subjectively faster. More power would be nice, but if I were you I would wait until I had done a few thousand more miles for the engine to free up before spending more money.

"The only meaningful improvement is Techart's supercharger kit that will set you back about 20G but will put performance very near turbo territory." or you could pay 1/2 that for the EVO SC which will produce MORE power than a turbo. they're getting 430 AT THE WHEELS out of the 3.6 non X51!

POST 5Original post

What would be the HP with the supercharger on a X51 3.6 ? ThunderC4S

POST 6Original post

There is a very noticable difference in power from when I first got my car to now. I have 3800 miles after 6 month and the car is much faster then when I first got it, even after 1800 miles break in.

POST 7Original post

"What would be the HP with the supercharger on a X51 3.6 ?" i would guess appx 450 at the wheels. there was a 17% drivetrain loss on my 3.4 so 450 at the wheels would equate to appx 545 hp!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

S#$t thats alot, I really need some mods with no warranty issues Donny J

POST 9Original post

donny, you could use an even more miniscule amount of boost than the EVO kit is currently being marketed with to provide bulletproof add'l power. iow, you could tone the kit down and still have a monster.

POST 10Original post

Donny, If you want more power..there is the GT3 and then the GT2 and ultimately the CGT. Remember..Porsche knows best, at least that's why you bought it in the first place..peace of mind!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dear Keyvan I agree entirely with your power findings my car has done 2500 miles, after approx 2 months and there is a noticible power hike from say after 1500 miles ....and I mean noticible I have just had a 1000 mile round journey and after that ...wow. Donny J

POST 12Original post

"If you want more power..there is the GT3 and then the GT2 and ultimately the CGT" definetely true - assuming donny wants to drop another $400k+ net (inclusive of taxes, etc). however, if he wants to keep his already heavily depreciated X51 and have some fun stomping GT3s (in a straight line anyway) for about $10k, his options are maybe not so plentiful or porsche provided.
