Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, looking to drop the engine (3.6L) out of a 2006 Carrera 4 997 BUT was told should be similar to a 996. Anyone have a DIY or thread/pics/manual they could link to the procedure? Thank you

I think the most important thing for the DIY'er is to mark each wire and hose to where they go, as well mark the places they came from. There is a ton of wiring and hoses to deal with... Also take pictures where you can, buy some good quality plastic bags and label them with the bolts and nuts that you remove. Don't take anything for granted that you think you'll remember because a day later you'll be scratching your head wondering where this part goes. Lastly be patient and take your time with the electrical plugs. They all have some type of retaining triggers that can be difficult to figure out. Lastly there's air conditioning hoses on the right side of the engine room up against the package tray. Really difficult to get at, I cut one of them since I wasn't going back with the engine, I might suggest lowering the engine and then undo the these hoses. I thought it was a lot more difficult than removing my "84" 911 engine. Depending on the miles on your engine I would consider replacing the clutch, water pump, and spark plugs "while you were there"... Maybe some experts can weigh in on this... I'm not...
