I know I should do a search first but searching on my iphone is a pain. This morning...2 am, the alarm on my 99 996 decides to go off. The car was parked inside the garage and the domesticated animal dwellers of the house were in bed. What could cause the alarm to activate like that? Low battery maybe? I drove the car to work that day and everything seemed to be normal.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I suppose it would help to know: was the car locked in the garage w/alarm set? Or was it just sitting there unlocked and the alarm went off? Were the windows open or closed...thinking infrared detectors in the cabin? You are right about the battery...we all know weird things happen when the battery voltage drops, random alarms, random window drops, etc. Maybe your avatar just needed some exercise!
Sorry, I should have added the details. Car was locked with alarm set. Windows up, console closed, etc. There were no fault beeps when I locked it.
Could have been just a fluke. You know all of the perimeters were okay (doors, hood, gas lid, engine lid, console) with no beeps, so that leaves only some fluke, or the interior infrared detectors, or a dying battery. Do you have Durametic? I seem to remember somewhere that it will read out what alarm sensor was activated. Maybe just be patient and see if it happens again. You might plan to purchase a new battery soon if it is approaching 2 years old. Florida is brutal on batteries.
Had a few false alarms with my Boxster. Turned out to be a small flying insect, a small moth actually, in the cabin. Occasionally it would come out while I was in the car but flit back out of sight. Once though I was prepared and smashed it against the inside of the windshield. Normally open the window and let the thing out but he was so quick to dash back into his hiding place in the dash that when the opportunity presented itself I newspapered his guts all over the glass. Anyhow, I never park the car with the top down and or even the windows down.
Not a big spider crawling around inside and across the sensors... Used to happen in my house in Australia.
I'd sell the car if it was a big spider. I left the Boxster top down during the time some spiders like to spin a web and float away on the wind to find a mate and some landed in the car. For months afterwards every once in a while I'd spot a small pale colored spider crawling about. I eliminated several of these before I got rid of them all.
A mouse, they love our German cars!

+1 Any electrical problems with our cars are rodent related.
No help on the alarm, best guess is dying battery or bug as the group has pointed out...but I'd like to point out that we depend on you for Hot Avatars, and not that we don't appreciate this one, because we do, but she's been up since last season it seems. We are now 4 games in to a new season and well, variety is the spice of life. Good luck with the alarm. DS
Thanks for the advice everyone. Must have been a bug or something. No issues since posting and all electrics seem to be up to par. Avatar changed to reflect the start of a new Gator football season. Please forgive my delay.
Thanks Gator, my Sunday just got a little better!
