Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought a new set of piston rings for my (visually, anyway) decent looking engine. The clearance that I'm seeing is around 0.032" for the upper ring. Somewhere I seem to recall seeing the clearance at 0.016 max. Anyone have anything further on this? Best place to have these engine cases evaluated? I use this as a daily driver, so I want it to remain pretty stock. OK, maybe the Fisters...

POST 2Original post

See Lograys posts on his rebuild. He spent some time gapping his rings. Here is one there are others. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...res-later.html Is it in your Bentley manual? http://www.bimmerzone.com/Porsche_Se.../BNT-P905.html

POST 3Original post

Logray & I use bigger bore (99mm) Nikasil plated sleeves, JE pistons & rings. So those specs are not relevent to stock applications.

POST 4Original post

sounds loose to me.. which is always a good thing.. loose is fast!!!

POST 5Original post

Most cylinders are way out of round and tapered, even at lower mileage. I have only seen a handful of blocks that could accept new rings without cylinder attention. Check you center bores carefully for roundness and taper. Most are out by .005 by 50K miles, which is absurd.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
