Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dealerships get such a bad name on forums (understandably most times) that I thought it would be nice to post a positive experience. Last week I had several meetings I was bouncing between when I discovered a loud hiss coming from the rear tire. Sure enough, picked up a nail. Immediately I got that sinking feeling of trying to find a local shop to deal with it, which meant letting some unknown person drive my car and then damage the wheel unmounting the tire. Dealership was not the closest option, but they keep a clean work area and I figured it was worth a try. Called service, I could tell they were busy but when I described the problem, the service manager (John) said he couldn't send me away even though it was Friday and getting close to 5pm. Got up there, explained where the nail was and they took it out back. Wandered around the showroom for a while, checked out some customers cars in the garage (including a gorgeous British racing green Aston Martin Vantage v12) when I heard it was done. Went to pay and they wouldn't take it since they didnt need to remove the wheel or tire. Granted it was a simple fix but, I was willing to pay just for the peace of mind of them doing it. Next week I had a local deli deliver some subs to the service area just to show my appreciation. Big complicated fix ? No. Did it make a huge difference in my day? Absolutely. They earned a repeat customer. Sometimes its the simple things

Thanks for sharing. You're right, too often we hear the dealer bashing (even though it may be deserved at times) and it is good to hear about a pleasant experience. And you did a cool thing too by buying them lunch Drive safe and keep a look out for the nails!

Good to hear ... I stopped in at New Country today to pick up a couple small parts (Velcro pucks for my floor mats) and they seem like a classy outfit. BTW, I was also there a while ago when they fired up the Aston Martin. The sound of that V12 is unbelievable.

It's cool that they helped you out, but without removing the tire, it's impossible to properly patch a nail hole. Especially on a high-speed tire. Sounds like the put in a string plug, inflated the tire, and sent you on your way...

I agree, and it may have to be redone down the road, but it saved my day and allowed me to get to what I had to. So far its holding air perfectly If I have it redone it can at least be on my own terms KoB - agreed. That V12 is unmistakable

POST 6Original post

You also did the right thing by sending subs to the dealership to show your appreciation. Sounds to me like a win-win.

Thanks. The all too often forgotten idea that one good turn deserves another

POST 8Original post

Local gas station did plug fix on my nissan Altima for $10 ... Took 5 mins. Next time I had a nail I bought the plug kit at auto store for $8 and did it myself . Would I want to ride the Porsche with that sort of fix. ? No way . Tire should be removed and professionally patched ...rebalanced etc. Nice to see dealer offer this service for free .. But find a race shop / indie that handles wheels and tires and get them to do it right. I wouldn't trust my 911 to a chain tire store either...
