Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been looking through the 2003 owners manual and notice there is a high power model in the technical data section. Does anybody know what was done to the engine get the high power? Is it an ecu remap or some mechanical change. Cheers Tokyopav

POST 2Original post

Do you mean the x51 engine option? if so see: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...1-package.html

That's probably the answer. Cheers. Seems I can get that kind of boost with an aftermarket ecu upgrade. Seems like a lot of kit for Porsche just for 25hp.

POST 4Original post

umm, no you can't and that claimed 25hp gain is across the range pretty much not just peak. Plus I believe it is underrated at 25hp by Porsche. Ask me how I know

Good to know. Cheers. ;-)

POST 7Original post

X51 is quite a bit more than an ECU map. You can flash your ECU and improve your performance for a standard M96 engine, but not to X51 levels. I have an Evolution Motorsports flash and I'm pleased with it.

I've also looked at the softronic. How would the Evolution Motorsports compare to the softronic or others? What was the deciding factor for you when choosing the ecu upgrade?

POST 9Original post

The deciding factor for me was the recommendation of my independent Porsche mechanic and tuner. They would have done any ECU flash that I wanted, but they had a great deal of experience with Evolution Motorsports and highly recommended them. This particular flash is not a true custom flash, but it is s designed specifically for M96 engines, as opposed to some other "generic" flashes. I'm pleased with the outcome.

I have x51 in my car my buddy does not and in a purely hypothetical street race x51 is consistently faster.

Nice!

50 HP in a Porsche= amazingly faster is that what you are claiming ? Porsche claims no added torque for X-51 Torque is what wins street races.

Or his car weighs 500lbs less than the other guy's.

Who told you there is such a thing as a "generic flash"?
