POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

http://community.myride.com/kickapps...107147&as=3898 For the first time in my car owning history, I want an Audi. All I'd do is lower this car on a set of aftermarket coilovers on a set of 20" Work VS-XX wheels or BBS LMs. Well done!

POST 2Original post

Saw that beast at the Auto Show last night. Crazy looking machine, even stock.

POST 3Original post

I still don't like that Starski and Hutch stripe on it.

POST 4Original post

I saw the ONE a local Audi dealer will get this year a couple weeks ago. I was fortunate enough to get to know the buyer and had lunch with him a few days later. Went for a drive and all I can say is WOW! Wicked fast and unbeleivably nice ride. Only $132,000 His was black which works better with the CF suspender looking thingy

POST 5Original post

Yeah I still do not like it and I have seen in up close too. Sure it's got great power and handles good, but that still doesn't matter to me. I have heard that only a few hundred are to be made and not for long either. I specifically do not like the large side blades painted a different colour.

I certainly respect you and your preferences, bro. And your words above is completely me, but in this case, you're not just buying into performance. You're buying into a limited edition car (so the manufacturer claims) and the looks of it is simply out-of-this-world meaning it looks like something that came out of "I, Robot". Rarely do I like a car right out of the box including my 911. I look at cars as a canvas to be painted on. If it already looks this good on a set of bland OEM wheels, I can only begin to imagine how insane this car would look lowered on a set of quality mesh wheels like your OZ 3s or your BBS LMs or my Work wheels, etc. I would probably get into an accident trying to get a better look at this thing in and around town here thusly modified. Likely no one in Seattle is going to do it up, though. It's a pretty conservative town car-wise.

Damn Ben you still got a piece of my post before I deleted it, oh well. Yeah I would like to see one modified from the stock look too, then maybe I could appreciate it more, but stock looking it just does nothing for me. It looks more like 'Transformer' than 'I Robot' IMHO

POST 8Original post

That audi is already on the road here in Sweden, not in the US?

POST 9Original post

They are on the road in the USA. Very linited availability though.

POST 10Original post

Ben I couldn't agree more. I saw one for the first time last Spring in Colorado doing some winter testing. This summer I was at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet. There were several there in different paint and trim levels for the Audi Driving Experience. The R8 is the real deal from a performance perspectfve. It smokes cars faster on paper, because of its incredible balance. The fit and finish is fantastic, even for an Audi. The only complaint I've heard from a few is that it is too easy to drive fast. Note that they don't say you feel disconnected. Apparently, some still believe that you need to wrestle a proper car. There is talk from Audi to come out with a V10. There is also talk of smaller, lighter, less expensive versions with smaller engines. Mike

Paint to sample ... Nrburgring white?

POST 13Original post

with an aluminum space frame, why couldn't they make it lighter. it's very porky at 3439lbs dry weight. put some oil and gas in it and it'll be more like 3550 lbs like the front and front 3/4 views but hate the side view. car still has to grow on me but it's not a "gotta have it" car. i applaud audi for shaking things up, in a good way.... unlike bmw and chris bangle, bad way.

They're showing off Audi's new revolutionary cooling system.

POST 15Original post

Just the base model is out now, wait until they drop the twin turbo V-10 from the RS6 in it.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yea i'd def skip the current v8 as it's just too close to the soap box RS4. the engine is also in the spyker. i don't wanna roll a car as conspicuous as this one and then the gallardo comes up and is like yo u want this v-10? but then given a choice between a lambo gallardo and the R8... i'd take the lambo. i can admire from a distance tho and the R8 is one unique car period audi or no audi. it's totally smart for them to start afresh by going space ship look as it was and is the only way to begin to compete with 40+ year old icon that is the 911. and boy is it competing. i'd take an R8 over any normally aspirated 997 maybe maybe not the 997 gt3.

POST 17Original post

There is an Audi Tech center near my office, usually 2-3 R8's in the lot, also the sweet new S5, Great looking Coupe.

POST 20Original post

I saw the R8 up close at Road America and I saw them put on a few exhibition laps with an R8, a C6, and a GT3. I think the Audi beats the other two in the looks department and it certainly looked and sounded fast at RA. IMHO, it doesn't sound as cool as the GT3, but it sounded better than the Vette. I'd probably take an R8 over any 911 Porsche currently makes (below the GT2/GT3). I like the looks.

POST 21Original post

Why buy the R8 when there is something called Gallardo?!

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 4785369

You could play that game all day. Why buy a Gallardo when you could buy a 430?!

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 4785414

but the Ferrari is not related to the R8 as the R8 is to the Gallardo........................

POST 24Original post

I'd rather have any 997 than an R8. It's an awesome car, sure, but it doesn't have the tradition, the beauty, or the style of a 997. Love that Top Gear clip. "Volkswagen Beetle" - I almost choked laughing.

POST 25Original post

Quote from the Top Gear clip; "This is the best 911, the Carrera 2S", rubbish!

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4785495

yea it's funny cuz the 911 looks more like a beetle than the r8 ever would

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 4785425

Who cares? The point is absolutely valid. People vote with their $$. I don't think Audi will have any problem selling every R8 they build. It's a great car, in spite of the fact that there is always something faster and more expensive.

a different opinion..... *** evo Car of the Year 2007: The Result *** 1st Porsche 997 GT3 RS = 95.7 2nd Ferrari 430 Scuderia = 94.9 3rd Audi R8 = 93.6 4th Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black = 91.4 5th BMW M3 = 90.9 6th Honda Civic Type-R = 89.4 7th Lambo Gallardo Superleggera = 88.2 8th Nissan 350Z = 87.6 9th Lotus 2-Eleven = 87.0 10th Mini Cooper S Works = 86.1 11th Vauxhall VXR8 = 83.8 12th Aston Martin DBS = 78.9

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4785646

evo is my fav auto mag, but the above rankngs tell me nothing. i'd take the gallardo and DBS over the #1 anyday of the week. not the #2. most definitely #3. they're all great cars and it's clear/obvious we're fighting like school kids over subjective matters.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 4785968

No fight here. I'm just playing around. The COTY honors obviously do not mean a Civic is better than the Aston. Price and market category are obvious factors.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 4785646

European Car named the R8 car of the year. GT3 is a great performance car, but if you spend more time on a street than a track it's a bit harsh and to the average person it looks like a 911 with a ricer bodykit.

POST 33Original post

I drove one before I ordered my N400 and didn't like it at all. My overall feeling was that it felt very mechanical. It's hard to explain. Is it possible for something to be TOO precise? It felt empty. Without any soul. Like it was engineered to death. I know that's completely subjective but what I love most about my P-car and my AM is that they feel alive when I drive them. The R8 felt like a robot (although a very fast robot).

POST 38Original post

I saw a couple of R8's at a big car show earlier this year...to me they looked better than any of the Porsche's including a CGT...
