Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First opening of the sunroof this week. (Open, not tilt) As I closed it, it would get about 2-3 inches from shut and suddenly reverse itself. After several attempts, I gently pressed up on the sunroof from inside the car, and it closed. I am guessing there is a lubrication problem of some sort with the wind deflector? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks

POST 2Original post

Don't have a sunroof, but on the 993 there is a plastic arm that pulls the wind deflector down as the roof closes. They would crack and break frequently. I would check that the wind deflector and its associated hardware are in good order.

POST 3Original post

I recently tried to open the sunroof on a new to me 996 that hadn't been opened in two years . I had to do what you did but to get it open . A general cleaning and vacuuming of the rails was followed by WD40 and then synthetic grease applied with my fingers . Works fine now . I would start there .
