Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i was pointed to this forum from some of the S4 guys and wanted to ask a few questions. I am getting rid of an 06 s4 and want to get into something a bit more fun. i really like the look of the 996 and 997's and want to get into a project car(interior exterior performance etc. ) but i hate buying a perfectley beautiful vehicle and then tearing it apart. i was wondering if parts between models can be placed on other variations of the same vehicle(rs bumper on a turbo, or turbo motor in c4 type of thing). just want to know how far these vehicles differ from one another. i know on the A4/S4/RS4 certain things can swap around, are 911's similair? basically if i buy a wreck and dump 80k in it, can i have any amalgamation between the specific model range or does it tend to hold true that if you want a turbo, start with a turbo?? thanks guys for any help !!

Welcome aboard. Porsche's were made to be modified Don't forget that the 911 is a pure sports car - much more than the audi. If I were you I would spend some spare time browsing the archives and you will get an idea of what sort of things are going around here. 911 are very different regarding the model or year. Some versions are very hardcore and track orientated like the RS, Cup, Clubsport, GT3, etc - some are more refined like the S, 4S, Turbo, GT2, etc. The 911 go back to 1964 till today. I prefer an older 964 turbo (ex 1990) to a newer 993 Carrera 2 (ex 95); I prefer a 1999 GT3 to a 2007 Carrera S. But this is my personal taste. Try find yours.

If you want a Turbo buy a Turbo. You can get a LOT more power from modding a Turbo It is pretty hard to get more power out of the NA 996.

POST 4Original post

there are basically 2 flavors of 996/997. Narrow body and wide body, the fronts are interchangable but the rears are not w/o modifications. There are supercharger kits for NA. The Turbo engines are highly modable... it all depends on what sort of projects you want to get into.

POST 5Original post

buy a turbo...... best deal around are the early 996tt's.. Ive seen more than a handful in the $50'S about $6 or $7k in mods will get you around 600hp...
