Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have not had it looked at yet. The shop I plan on taking it to is closed the rest of the week. So without further delay.. what the heck is this sound?? Wait closer to the end and you can hear someone playing the triangle... You Tube

POST 2Original post

SAI noise? At the end I hear what sounds like bore scoring. Hope Im wrong.

Perhaps SAI if it goes away once the engine is warmed up. I couldnt hear piston slap (bore scoring) but Im listening on my ancient iPhone.

1:53 till the end of the vid.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So here's what happens, when you cold start it....there's a very high pitched whining sound basically till it warms up. At the 1:21 mark till about 1:35 you hear what sounds like chimes going off and then it sort of shuts off. Thanks Bash Hat...I heard what you hear on the light tick at the end. But I have listened to it drove it a few times now and I think it is very very very light in person. I think the audio plays a little trick on us when I'm walking around to the door... but I'll get it looked at. The whining was my main concern right now.

POST 6Original post

Might just be a tiny exhaust leak then. Also seemed louder on the driver side. Usually piston slap is heard more on the pass side (4,5 & 6).

POST 7Original post

Secondary Air injection pump noise. Once the pump shuts off no more triangle sound. Don't know about possible bore scoring as phone not underneath by the cylinders. Trust me I know the sound...

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys! That's kinda what I was thinking. At the 1:33 mark when you hear it shut off it sounds like a pump turning off. Is that normal? My previous car was '01 3.4L and never heard that before.

Yes that is normal. The SAI shuts off at about that time. The SAI pump is the round thing in between the water tank and the rear bumper. If it is SAI it sounds a little noisy.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good to know! I will get it checked out for the basics anyway. Thanks again!

Thought I was listening to a table saw... https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...odd-sound.html
