Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So driving along at 60mph, without warning the gearbox locked up and sheered off at the propshaft, long story short I'm after a 996.2 6 speed manual gearbox for a 4wd., amongst quite a few other parts that were damaged as the propshaft failed in the transmission tunnel. Any help/advice would be greatly received to avoid the eye watering bill I've been quoted using new parts.

POST 2Original post

You have probably tried, but all I can suggest is contacting the specialist Porsche breakers (9Apart, Prestige Salvage, Douglas Valley, etc.)

POST 3Original post

Try salvage sales, such as Copart UK, where you buy a complete salvage car take the bits you want and sell on the remains after. Thinking a 996 C4 use same gearbox and transmission components as C4S, and looks like Copart currently have a 2003 996 C4 (6 speed manual / 2 axle drive) located in Reading. Hope this helps

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the tip, I had a look before at Copart but will revisit. I have searched the Porsche breakers but will email all directly this weekend, hopefully something will come up, its too good a car to break.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The only carrera 4 i can see on Copart is a tiptronic. I have found a 2nd rear housing so I will see if I can get it rebuilt at a reasonable cost, most other damaged parts are available 2nd hand so hopefully all is not lost...
