Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know what the Tip temp. control valve is for. Quick warm-up in cold weather? Mine has a blown diaphragm. With no vacuum the coolant pipe is open. I live in Puerto Rico and can't imagine you would want to close off coolant to the trans cooler anytime with 70-100 degree yr. round. Any thoughts? Thanks

POST 2Original post

The coolant control valve on a Tiptronic transmission controls the amount of coolant flow going to the coolant to oil transmission cooler on the side of the trans. It maintains optimum transmission oil temps to protect the unit from overheating, which will destroy the transmission if there is no coolant flow.
