Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Don, As far as I know the solenoid is just a straight replacement job without requiring any special set-up, but if you have a friendly local Porsche Independent they will be able to advise you. Jeff
Depends on the engine. 3.4 or 3.6? The Variocam solenoid on the 3.4 is a bit tricky, and I would suggest a specialist. The 3.6 has Variocam Plus, and the solenoids for timing and lift are much more straightforward to change.

Many thanks. its a 3.4
I think its an engine out job by the look of it..
I think that with care, it can be done with the engine in the car. Most failures are of the solenoid coil, rather than the valve itself. I would find an independent Porsche specialist who has had experience of doing this job.
Will enquire with my local independent. Many thanks.
