Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello I have a 2000 996 Cabriolet with tiptronic transmission. The leather handle on my gear shift selector (the part on the center console which you press the button to shift gears) is worn and I want to replace it. Can anyone tell me how to remove this shift selector? Thanks Al

POST 2Original post

It will snap out by pushing it forward. Be prepared to catch a small spring that puts pressure on the button when you push it down to shift. You can remove the handle by pulling out a small clip that will be exposed when you removed the button.

Sorry didn't see the date on the post and you figured it out by now. LOL
