Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 1998 Boxster's key is the style that has two buttons and the physical metal key for the ignition. One button is for the door lock and the other is for the rear trunk. My question: Does the key's battery have a parasitic drain IF the buttons are NOT PRESSED? I ask because, I typically leave the key on the dashboard when the car is in my garage. I assume that unless one of the two buttons is pressed and the little red light on the fob lights up there is no drain. Am I correct of wrong about that?

POST 2Original post

No, it only draws power when the buttons are pushed.
