Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 911 carrera 4 that I pretty much lunched the engine, hit a tire on the highway and it ripped a hole in my oil filter canister. So I was just talking to tonythetarga on here and he has a good core to rebuild and want to weigh my options here on weather to rebuild or bail out of it, anybody have any idea what the cost would be to rebuild?

Since the 99-2001 3.4 have the thinnest cylinder walls of any Porsche engine they are highly prone to irregular cylinder wear thereby necessitating LNengineering.com billet cyl. sleeve installation for a quality rebuild. The good news is the process yields 3.6 litres & adds 40ft/lbs torque which is exactly what a AWD 996 needs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/boxster-cayman-forum/662060-classifieds-march-april-2012-a.html

Where are you located in the north east? Mech in new Rochelle is a great shop. The owner is named Mike. Has been in the porsche business for years.
