Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking to buy a replacement coolant tank for a 99 996. If you have one please send me a PM. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I would not replace with a used. These tanks degrade due to engine heat. They all fail eventually. It's a matter of when. I just replaced mine at 79k. Many don't last that long.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! I see I have a steeper learning curve on the water cooled cars than I thought. Thanks for the advice.

POST 5Original post

dennish or anyone else, is the replacement of the coolant tank in 996 a straight forward diy job?

POST 7Original post

model year 99 is easier than my model year 03. 99 has smaller tank and goes in without lowering the engine and less hassle . I think there's a You tube video and write ups on Rennlist.org or else where. Maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in. I would say it's a DYI. with moderate skills.
