Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2006 996 that I bought in 2008 (9000 miles on it then) from a Porsche dealer. About 6 months after purchase the ignition switch let me remove the key while it was running. The dealer replaced the switch and all was OK until about 3 months ago. I now have 23000 miles. Sometimes now the car will sound as if its going to crank but it won't. After about 2 attempts, I remove the key so all will reset and the car cranks. Happens when motor is cold or hot. No codes per my mechanic. He does say it is a little slow to crank. Sounds like the old days when there was a vacuum hose loose. Any ideas on the problem?

POST 2Original post

My car is inside North Scottsdale Porsche right now for the same reason. It can only be 2 things. There is a cable that goes from the starter to the alternator, if it has any type of corrosion on it there will be resistance when tested or your starter is showing the beginning of a slow death. Mine took a year always started with a cold engine but would not crank with a hot engine.

Just been reading another thread re clutch switches. The clutch has to be depressed for the starter to come in. Could it be a faulty switch at the clutch pedal. Just a thought. If so they are only $20 from Pelican parts and can be swapped out DIY Smilein 15 minutes. Wavy
