I have been reviewing the forums on rear break pad replacement on my 1999 996 and all showed the pads popping right out, well mine were stuck. A little pulling (too much probably) and out one popped with two disks stuck to it. They seem to be 'caliper dust covers' but I am not sure. I have not seen any images or videos that show these. Can someone with some knowledge provide me with some information on these? See photo. Your help, as always is greatly appreciated. Tom

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They are called anti squeal shims, and are meant to reduce noise from the brakes. /Peter
Thank you! with your reply I was able to find this as part number "96435109602" and or "96435109601". I see that there are some recommendations that these do not need to be used if the originals were damaged..as mine were. I will give it shot without and if there is squeal, I will go back in! Let me know if anyone has any thoughts about not reinstalling them with Textar pads. Thanks again. Tom
