Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi; looking at moving up from the Cayman to a 2007 Carrera S. I've found a car locally that has been regularly serviced with 30K miles, but is a lease return from out of Province so a chat with the previous owner isn't practicable. I plan on a PPI, but reading up on the 3.8l motor there is a lot of material on the internet regarding major engine failures on these cars that arise along the continuum from hard to light driving, notwithstanding regular maintenance. Is this particular drive line extraordinarily flawed? Experiences or observations of the informed are appreciated. Thank you!

POST 2Original post

While there are incidents of failure, consider how many folks who have no issues DON'T go out of there way to post their non events. Squeaky wheels do get the oil If you are worried about engine longevity, you might consider an aftermarket warranty. Then again, if nothing goes wrong, you are out big $$$ Some don't consider it a move up from a Cayman to a 997 . . . but since you are a current Cayman owner, how worried are you about its motor failing? If the cayman motor doesn't worry you, the 997S motor shouldn't either. If you are REALLY worried, try on a TT or GT3 instead.
