Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I was wondering when our cars would be worth more than what the original dealer price was. The classic old muscle cars are worth way over their original sticker price. Does anyone know what the list price on the 1996 986 was? I would like to how close the used ones are coming to that price.

POST 2Original post

Isn't a used 986 very nearly disposable these days? Can't you very easily find them well under $10k? I don't think those cars are ever going to appreciate the way you think they will.

POST 3Original post

As I recall, when I ordered my Z3 in 1996, the base price was around $36k and the Boxster was about $40k without any options. KBB lists a top condition basic '97 Boxster at about $6k for a private party sale, so it will be quite a few years before it becomes a classic. Perhaps you should be thinking TR3 or MGA which are finally starting to appreciate.

POST 4Original post

Nov 1996 price for the Boxster base model was $45,000 according to Car and Driver.

POST 5Original post

In Australia, the first year 986 Boxster (there was only the base) no options was $109,500 AUD

POST 6Original post

I bought an early 986 and the base list price was $56,600 CDN (IIRC that was $39,900USD). Sadly, they are sub-10,000 now.

POST 7Original post

No idea about the 1996 ROW Box. Here in the USA Porsche announced the 1997 Box would have a base MSRP of $40,000 & they met that goal. Well maintained examples currently sell for $10,K- $15,K. I have no doubt someday these 986's will sell for what they did new if properly maintained/restored, especially with the soon to be extinct manual transmission!

As of two days ago you are incorrect. Porsche has declared the 1997-2004 986 model a classic. Don't sell now, hang on to it. Porsche Classic - Service & Accessories - HOME - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG
