Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bore scoped my car today, 3.4L with no symptoms, no smoke, no sutty tail pipe, no slap, here's what I found, photos below are cylinders 5 and 6 which were the worst, PS the photo image on my phone actually makes it look worse than seeing it with the naked eye, camera actually makes it look darker than it is. What do people think, 2000 3.4L 115k miles

POST 2Original post

With no symptoms why are you looking for a problem? Just drive and enjoy the car. From that photo it's impossible to say anything but put the camera away and revel in owning a wonderful machine.

POST 3Original post

At 115k you have bigger engine issues to worry about than those bores. All the crank bearings will be at end of life.

You can't deny FACTS. I tried and failed......ate right through my crank.

POST 6Original post

We all know cylinders 5 & 6 wear faster but yours seems good, quality thicker oil, regular servicing and sensible warming up habits then enjoy and thrash the car - all seems fine. Alex, did your car not show higher Copper deposits in the oil samples beforehand? I would have thought this could have been picked up if the bearing shells were wearing as it’s unlikely to be an immediate failure. How often do you do oil samples? I do them every 12k but may change to 6k samples now I’m at 140,000m.
