Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello All, Has anyone taken their seats apart to recover or repair them? I'm wondering how hard it would be to replace, or recover, the center inserts. I have an '06 with what I consider basic Sports Seats. I was thinking about maybe recovering the center sections with hounds-tooth or some other plaid upholstery over the winter. I contacted a seat upholstery company that advertises in Excellence magazine, and they wanted $1700 to do that. So I wanted to investigate the do-it-yourselfer route, it that is possible. I've had other Porsche seats recovered with the full cover being removed and replaced. But, never have thought about taking the cover apart. Thanks much, Steve

I haven't but I've explored the idea a bit. The back center section of the standard 987 seats appears that it can be easily detached. I imagine there is some wiring to be disconnected if it's a heated seat, and then the question will be - is the heating pad glued to the back of the leather, or is it supported by the seat back.. dunno until it comes apart, I haven't found any youtube video showing that. The seat bottom cushion has the same question, and is made a bit more complicated since there is a weight sensing pad of some sorts in the passenger seat designed to turn the airbag off if no one is sitting in the seat, or if the passenger is under about 40lbs. Anything you can find would be quite useful, I have the Pepita color/pattern all picked out - original Porsche pattern from the 70-80's, and a source for the fabric. Just need a long 2 month freeze next winter to put the project into play..

Same here. I will hunt around for some upholstery material first, then possibly attack this project when it starts to get nasty outside. Where did you find the fabric? Thanks, Steve

POST 4Original post

I don't have it handy, but you can find their ad in the PCA magazine, They have lots of options..

Hi Steve, I am in Saint Louis with a 2006 Cayman S with a driver's seat needing some attention. Please advise on your search and hopefully a successful project. Thank you, Jeff (987.1 my top pick)

POST 6Original post

Hi Jeff, Nice to know that, and hopefully it does not need too much attention! Is the seat still in your car, and have you tried taking it apart? thanks, Steve
