Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seems to be a good substitue of the stock alternator. Only $250 from amazon. Just want to pass along the info. See the thread here. http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...2/#entry272895

POST 2Original post

Unless you had a huge car stereo, what would be the advantage of something like this?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The advantage is you get a brand new Bosch alternator for $250 and no core charge It's just the 150A brand new turns out to be cheaper than the stock 120A reman version.

POST 4Original post

...and the dash lights don't dim every time the bass hits. Which is nice.

POST 5Original post

When I put in my vehicle info It says it doesn't fit my car 2001 c4

Yes because this part was never meant for our 996 but it happens to fit perfectly per the poster on renntech. The official Bosch alternator for (some) 996 is AL0812x (with a clutched pulley) and this is AL0815N which happens to fit. 12=120A, 15=150A. "N" means new and "x" means reman.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like this AL0815N is for 997.1 therefore it will also fit our 996 as M96 and M97 are so similar http://www.opticatonline.com/part/bo...15n-alternator

Thanks for the tip!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sure Pete. Btw, looking at its spec, it's 1.26lb lighter than the stock AL0812X despite the higher capacity. @Schnell, it's hard to say as the bottleneck could be the long stock cables from the alternator to the power distributor.

Ahhh! Ok that makes sense, thanks!

POST 12Original post

Weird, if it fits in both fine, I wonder why Porsche has kept both parts. Wouldn't it make more sense to discontinue the 996 version, and have the 997 one supersede it? http://sonnenporscheoemparts.com/par...&siteid=215405 http://sonnenporscheoemparts.com/par...&siteid=215405

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The 150A capacity is probably over engineered for 996 (it won't hurt though).
