Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wondered if anybody else had experienced this, I had PSS10 coilovers installed last July, a few weeks ago one of the front top mounts failed (new oem mounts fitted with the suspension), yesterday the other side failed, could it be a faulty batch?

POST 2Original post

I doubt they could be a faulty batch as they are opposite sides, so 2 different parts, most likely made at different times. Can you be more specific on how they have failed?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The damper popped through and was contacting the top of the turret.

POST 4Original post

Sounds like they weren't assembled correctly , it's the bearings that usually go but after a few years, they're pretty solid.

No, they are the same, just orientated differently. Current up issued part number is 997 343 018 01, but this is supplied to Porsche by Sachs, whose part number is 802 553. Identical part, you can even see where the 997.xxx.xxx.xx part number was ground off before plating in the factory, oh and about a third of the Porsche price.

POST 6Original post

For confirmation on orientation, from the workshop manual:

POST 7Original post

I always thought the top mounts were left and right handed.

POST 8Original post

See scuffing on this picture of a Sachs item, exactly as the Sachs top mounts I fitted in 2020 and still going strong.

2WD arent handed, 4WD ones are

POST 11Original post

Mine went a year or so ago. The main symptom was a horrible squeaking. I replaced them with the 'OEM match' parts from Design 911. They were very affordable and so far so good. On my 4S it was possible to swap them with the shocks in situ with both front sides raised. I also replaced the washers between the mount and the strut at the same time. It's also worth cleaning and re-greasing the roller bearing at the same time.

Good point. To be fair, variant wasn't given by the OP
