Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I’m looking to buy my first 911 and my budget will allow a 18-19 Targa or a 21-23 coupe. My daughter loves the coupe but I like the targa. Any thoughts or suggestions

POST 2Original post

Nice budget.... A friend is actually considering a 911 targa vs. coupe as well....and his thought was: 1. Do you enjoy open-air driving? (my friend owned / owns 986 and 987 boxsters, and likes the open air driving) plus he is not going to track so......he prefers a Targa 2. Or do you want the "original"? - I personally prefer coupe (no sunroof - as, our family in general, do not really open the sunroof at all) Obviously, you can't go wrong with either

POST 3Original post

haha, you've been thru my thoughts I see...my daughter can't stand the body of the targa, she says the roof and back end looks weird...she's 13. She likes the body of the coupe much better. I am definitely not going to track it, I am too afraid of wrecking it. We have sunroofs now in our cars and never have opened them, but I think I would enjoy the open roof, I'm just afraid that I'll use it a ton the first year and then never again....So, now I am leaning toward a 2025 coupe and order what we want on it, but I'm afraid of dealer markups. I am just not going to pay over MSRP. So, I look forward to what you think about all this

POST 4Original post

I don't think about 911 at all as I have a son who is going to a college next month Honestly I don't know much about recent 911s at all (e.g., I wouldn't be able to identify 991 vs 992 at all on the street). All else being equal I will likely buy a 997 or previous ones although an older nsx maybe more likely good luck!!

POST 5Original post

If you don't prioritize 0-60 and the latest tech consider a 991.1, the sound they make is way different due to the lack of turbos.

POST 6Original post

I went down this road last spring and ended up buying a 2018 S coupe. I am very happy with the decision but still love the look of the Targa. Beautiful cars but they have a lot of moving parts.

I understand you have kids. Getting them in and out of the back seats can be a real pain, and not a pleasant experience overall. The rear space feels quite cramped, and traveling back there can be a bit claustrophobic. The Targa’s glass roof might also make the rear seats less comfortable in the summer heat. I have small kids myself, and I already found the rear-seat experience subpar in a 6 Series, which is a larger car. So when I started looking for a 911 , I went straight for the Cabrio. My kids absolutely love the cabriolet experience, and with the roof down, it’s much easier to get them in and out, even fastening their seatbelts is simpler. It also works better for adults on short trips. Add heated and ventilated seats, and you can enjoy the car almost year-round, depending, of course, on where you live.
