Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I noticed his obit in Motor Sport. An amazing individual, perhaps best known in modern times as the driver of the red #23 Porsche 917 that won the Le Mans 24. I took this pic in the garage f the museum. He had some extraordinary scrapes in his career, At Avus in 1959 he was flung out off his car as it barrel-rolled down the track, landed on the track, got up and walked away. Another time he was driving in the Targa Florio and came to a railway crossing gate - as it dropped it was too close to brake so he ducked and drove under tha gate , almost getting claimed by the train. I was over at Hans-Peter Porsche's wonderful toy museum in Austria one time. Hans-Peter was having lunch with him and introduced me. He was a wonderful warm person. When I was leaving I casually asked him ,"So, what you do drive these days?".. He leaned over with a twinkle in his eye and said "Mercedes" . I took the pic below then:

A friend had this picture commissioned some years ago and gave me a print. An amazing man who contributed to some of Porsche’s wonderful history.
