Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One of the two side flaps (Porsche manual's terminology, not mine) opens part way and stops. I assume a limit switch contact is not made and interrupts operation part way through the opening or closing operation. If the side flap is manually opened or closed, the convertible top successfully completes its operation. Is the 996 known for bad relays? Is it the relay(s)? Or, is it the limit switches? Or, something else? Any ideas? Thanks!

Try this thread: RennTech.org Forums > Cabriolet top side flap It that doesn't help, search around RennTech some more. RennTech is a good site for water cooled owners to become familiar with.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To all: bad limit switch. But, many of the recommendations including hydraulic oil and especially lubricating the worm gear/motor screw gear were heard, implemented, and made a big improvement. Thanks!
