Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

took my 97 boxster to the store this afternoon and everything seemed to be in good working order. but entered the car for my trip home to find that the same car key that enabled me to drive to the store now no longer fits/is accepted into the ignition switch. a similar occurrence happened earlier this week but by simply, very gently 'wiggling' the key head ever-so-slightly, from side to side, for a few moments, i managed to slide the key in without forcing it. no such luck this time. and have no other key to this vehicle. so now my car is in a public lot on a summer sunday afternoon. so far, i can't even seem to line up a flatbed to have it towed home. one guy i spoke with told me he wouldn't be able to get the car on the bed without a functional key [is this correct?] could the key battery or car battery have anything to do with this problem [both are older than i can recall]. any assistance will, as always, be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance...

POST 2Original post

Stick or Tip? Either way you should be able to get both in neutral and as long as the flatbed can be lined up it should load. Hopefully you parked it where a truck can line up with it or you can push it into position forward or back.

POST 3Original post

you are correct - [manual] car loaded easily. don't know what the 'bearer of bad information' had in mind. thanks for your interest, consideration and your response.

POST 4Original post

Good to hear. Hopefully nothing seriously wrong with it, maybe the key needs reprogramming. The last time my Boxster needed a lift the guy came out with two sets of wheels. He had it on the wheels in about five minutes, without moving the car, and we were on the road in no time.
