Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey there everyone, I thought I would check in here to see if there is any interest from the group with regard to grabbing the detent mod for the 986 Manual gearbox? I am going to making a batch of these up again soon, and wanted judge interest. Cost on our detent is $149.00 including shipping here in the US. Let me know if I can be of help, or if you would like to order one. Erik Johnson The Race Line [phone removed] phone

Can you describe what this mod is for those who don't know please?

POST 3Original post

Hey there Ken, Sure I can do that. The detent modification is one of the solutions found to help solve the dreaded 2nd gear pop out issue. It is basically a modification of the OEM part that allows the gearbox operating sleeves to engage the gear's dog ring deeper, thereby giving it better contact, and less of a opportunity to slip off the dog, and pop out of gear. The detent essentially holds the operating sleeve in place, and also controls the amount of travel. This is a great preventive maintenance modification, and while it has helped some completely solve the issue, it needs to be well known in advance that if the gearbox has been suffering the pop out issue for some time, there may be damage to both the operating sleeve and the gear dog, that this will not be able to correct alone. It is a pretty easy DIY modification for those with relatively small hands, and can be done with the gearbox in the car, however, it is much easier with the car on a lift. I hope that this helps explain a bit better what this part does, feel free to give me a call with additional questions. Erik Johnson The Race Line [phone removed] phone
