Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hey there! Recently bought a 2000 base model for my wife, we both love it so far. One issue has arisen though, can't seem to find any answers online. The levers for both the front and rear trunk seem 'locked'. They previously worked fine, then one day became very picky about when they want to open. It seems like its locked in a safety mode or something. A few weeks ago it happened on a weekend road trip with all our clothes in the trunk , and it took a bunch of on/off cycles till eventually they worked. There is absolutely no 'play' in either lever. Everything else on the car works flawlessly. Am I doing something wrong? Heard of this before? Thanks!

Are the levers mechanical or electric? If mechanical I'd have to think they are just wearing out or the cables are stretching or the linkage is getting worn and the movement is not sufficient to fully release the latch. The ones on my 02 base are electric and have never failed to release the lock so I could not open either trunk. Now the front trunk lid doesn't pop up with as much vigor as it used to and I have to grasp the lid leading edge with my finger tips to lift it up high enough to get at the safety release. The techs tell me the latch eventually wears out and will need to be replaced at some point. That point is getting close I think. In my other car the only time the in this case the rear engine compartment lid failed to open was when I removed the spoiler fuse and then found out the rear lid electrical latch release was on the same circuit as the spoiler. Sorry but no real ideas or suggestions other than to say I have to believe if you took the car in to a Porsche shop the techs would know what's gong on. You can't have been the first car this has happened too.
